Brechtian Story..Maybe..

Actually, before reading the terms of this assignment closely, I was more than certain that it's a Hegelian story, but since my name is Yerbol, I would have to speak on behalf of Brecht and Marx.
I guess, I could emphasize with the statement that "the character is not absolute subject but the object of economic or social forces to which he responds and in virtue in which he acts".. In other words, environment shapes a personality...
Honestly, it's hard for me to support "Snow Crash" as a Brechtian story with use of the main characters of Neal Stephenson, like Hiro and Y.T., because their characters are not really shaped by their environments..(they could easily fit their roles of Kouriers and Deliverators in Reality and live happily ever after).
In my assigned position, Raven is a best example of environmental envolvement in shaping personality.. He did not born to be this vicious cold-blooded murderer. As we can judge from his encounter with Y.T., he can be a warm and loving person.. But his country was "fucked by everybody" his father was killed by Nipponese, and Raven unites with Orthos, who he shares his goals with, and kills as many people as he can.
From another perspective,Hiro and Juanita will never be these strong and driven hackers if they grew up in some farm, or in some wealthy family.. They are both with the military background, who grew up moving from one place to another.
Who knows, if the Snow Crash would never appear, if L. Bob Rife would not build the Metaverse, if Uncle Enzo would not take Y.T. under his wing, none of these would've happened. Hiro, Y.T., and others would stay in their Reality, deliver pizza, packages, and doing other things. Something had to happen. Something had to disturb their normal way of life and push them to become whoever they became. Something had to trigger this reaction.
In "Snow Crash" we can clearly see the connection between environmental forces (social, economical, circumstantial). If it wasn't for the Metaverse, Hiro would never be "the greatest sword fighter". He would become a ridicule slicing footballs in parks of the Reality.
The L. Bob Rife can afford to "think big", can afford to hire hackers, build Raft and Metaverse. His economical status allows him to do what he does. What would happened if he didn't have as much power and money?
As it was indicated on page 93 of Boal:"..the characters social relations create the dramatic action", as we can see "Snow Crash" illustrates it as well. Juanita with her knowledge of what is happening and willingness to become a goddess Inanna has social relations with Hiro, and Hiro with the rest of the characters.
I think Brechtian and Hegelian stories can coexist in Snow Crash, because often a person can alter circumstances as well as circumstances can alter a person..
