in this book, it is clear that L'Engle is giving a story about good and evil, evry character is clearly ientify as good or evil. Good characters we have Meg and her family, Calvin, the 3 W's, Happy Medium, Aunt Beast. evil character include IT, The black thing and the Red eyed man. The thing that signified good is being able to love others. and the things the signified evil perhaps is the will to control the others like IT control Charles and the people lives in Camazotz. i think the reason to risk you life fight against another is really a siginficant moves, it requires alot of love to sacrifice, like Mrs. Whatsis sacrifive herself to fight the Black Thing, also at the end how Meg risk her life to rescue her brother. the reason why doing so? i think its becasuse you love someone very very much, i wouldnt say sacrificing yourself to save others is "worth" for youself if you end up losing your life. becasue i think the worth means you gain something benifitial after you did something. therefore i wouldnt say its worth it to spend you life to save the others. i think the question "is it worth to spend you life to save the others "is confusing me, it makes me feel like i would sacrifice myself for others, but thats not the case, i will spend my life to fight for others and i wont expect gaining anything benifitial. so if i can change the question that confuses me into "will you sepnd your life to fight for others" and not putting "worth" in the sentence.

so in the case of this book ending, is it worth it to spend your life to save the others? since its a happy ending and no one die at the end, i will say its worth it to save their father.

im not really sure if im supporting L'engle's idea 100% about good and evil. his idea is that if you know how to love, you are good, if you dont, you are bad. i think that is a very extreme way to judge people although ultimatly he might be right. becasue there might be some exeption, like a bad guy who rob the bank becasue he needs money to support his family, like the "sand guy" in the movie "spider man 3" (in case you never watch the spiderman 3, the sand guy rob money from the bank so he can have money to save his ill daughter) Also this question brings me back to the discussion about "what define a good person and what define a bad person" when we read the book the good person of Szechwan, which i find kind of interesting.
